I really do not know anything about this photo. This was one of many photos that were in the Todd/Coley collection that I scanned in 2014. On the back of it was written “Leander Harral Twin Falls” in pencil. I really was not sure if that was enough information. This must have been a friend of Melvin Todd.
Doing a quick search today, I found an obituary for a Leander Harral. Everything seems to be a match. I uploaded the photo to his profile on FamilySearch.

Here is another photo of the bunch. It shows Quinton Harral on it.
Quinton Harral
I found this obituary for Quinton Harral, he passed away just last year.
Quintin Henry Harral, age 86, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning on July 16, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, from post surgical complications.
Quintin was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on July 23, 1936, to Quintin Leander Harral and Louise Lulu Engelbrecht Harral. Quintin was the second of three children, Leander, an older brother by 16 months and a younger sister, June, 2 years later.
Quintin grew up in Twin Falls and was a member of the first graduating class of Twin Falls High School in 1954. He then attended Idaho State College which is now called Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, and graduated in the Votec Auto Body and Fender Program. He also was a member of the ISU Marching Band. Quintin was a premier trumpeter and was often requested to play “Taps” at funerals and events.
He met Leona Rosa Henrie on October 31, 1957, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, while he was drag racing down Main Street. They eloped to Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 17, 1957. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Quintin’s and Leona’s children are: Cindy Lu, Pamela Joy (deceased), Bruce Quin, and Anthony Vail. They raised their four children while living in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Boise, and Pocatello, Idaho. Leona passed away on June 21, 1993, in Pocatello, Idaho. On January 17, 1998, Quintin married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Patricia Jane Hancock Anderson. Patricia passed away on November 24, 2001, in Pocatello, Idaho. On November 29, 2003, Quintin married, and is survived by Avon Woolstenhulme Hillman in Eagle, Idaho.
Quintin worked as a Body and Fender man at C Ed Flandro’s in Pocatello and Theisen Motor Company in Twin Falls after he and Leona married. In 1967, he changed careers and went to work for Farmers Insurance Company in Boise, Idaho, as an Auto Claims Adjuster. In 1971, he was promoted to the Pocatello Regional Office of Farmers Insurance as the Regional Auto Physical Damage Claims Manager overseeing Idaho, Montana, and Utah. Quintin retired from Farmers Insurance in 1998.
Quintin loved cars and racing. Drag racing was his obsession. Prior to retiring and Leona’s death, his two sons formed the “Harral Racing Team.” His daughter, Pam, was even involved in the racing world.
Quintin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He joined the church in 1963, in Twin Falls, Idaho, and remained a faithful member. He had a strong testimony and never doubted it. He was always participating in many acts of service. He and Avon lived in St. George then returned to Ammon, Idaho, where they served a Humanitarian Mission and worked in the Idaho Falls Temple. Quintin held many church callings, including Elders Quorum President twice, Sunday School President, Ward Membership Clerk, Ward Clerk, and Financial Clerk for four different Bishops. He served a service mission in the East Pocatello Stake while he and Patricia were married.
Quintin is survived by his wife, Avon Hillman; daughter, Cindy Lu Latimore (Mark) of Chubbuck, Idaho; son, Bruce Quin Harral (Cathy) of Eagle, Idaho; and son, Anthony Vail Harral (Bobbie) of Pocatello, Idaho; sister, June Harral of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; and sister-in-law, Trudy Harral of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as his 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Quintin in death is Leona Henrie, wife; Patricia Anderson, wife; daughter, Pamela Harral; brother, Leander Harral; and his parents, Quintin Leander Harral and Lousie Lulu Engelbrecht Harral.

Lastly, there was this photo of Quinton, Leander, and June. Quinton’s obituary indicate she lives in Florida and is still alive.
“Ada +family, Mildred + Walter, Ada + Jim, Barbara + Carl
Here is a photo that was in the possession of Melvin & Colleen Todd. Mel has not recognized any of these people so I am sharing it in hope someone else might.
The truck in the background in early 1940s, so we are mid to late 1940s at the earliest. One man is in a military uniform, but he could be World War II or Korean War.
I have written of Mel’s grandfather AW Todd briefly. Mel’s mother was a Williams. It is a large family that in climbing through the tree, nothing jumped out as belonging to anyone. Perhaps someone else in the future will be able to define who these people are and let me know.
Shirley and Marion Murray, holding Nevin about 1940
A year ago I wrote about Marion Murray, Shirley Cate, and their son Nevin. I scanned the photos of Mel and Colleen Todd and continue to work on those photos. Interestingly, this photo has “Marion, Murray Shipley, + Nevin” written on the back. As I worked through some of those unknown photos, I remembered researching and writing on Marion Ellsworth Murray. I went back, and it dawned on me the name was Shirley, not Shipley. I am happy to add this photo with some of the back story to it.
Joanna Virginia Angeline Todd (1898-1997) is related to the Todd line, which is why they have the photo. She married James Ellsworth Murray (1895-1918) and he died of the influenza only two years into their marriage. They had a son, Marion. She remarried to Roy Elgin Davis (1888-1957).
Marion married Shirley Isabelle Cate (1922-1995) and they had a son named Nevin Wayne Murray (1939-2003). He later took the name of Shirley’s next husband, who she married in 1944, to Nevin Wayne Gibson.
The family looks happy and content on a summers day here. Likely in Twin Falls County Idaho. She remarried within about 4 years. What happened or what went wrong? But this snapshot looks whole.
This photo appeared of David D Williams recently. I had a very small copy of the same photo attached to a family pedigree sheet. Here is a copy of that pedigree that belonged to my Grandmother, Gladys Maxine Donaldson Ross. The other photos on the pedigree I have also match. I was pretty excited when this one showed up in better and higher resolution than the one on the family group sheet.
Pedigree of David Delos Donaldson
My Grandma would not have known David as he passed away in 1911. I have previously written on David D Williams and Gwenllian Jordan. For a quick updated, David D Williams was born 12 November 1832 in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, Wales. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in August 1848. He saved and emigrated to Utah in 1864. He married his wife on board the the ship, General McClellan, docked at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. He and Gwenllian Jordan settled in Ogden, Weber, Utah. They had 10 children of which Mary Elizabeth Williams (1869 – 1951) is my Great Great Grandmother. David passed away 27 November 1911 in Ogden. He was buried 2 December 1911 in the Ogden City Cemetery. He and Gwenllian do not yet have a tombstone, something I hope to correct.
This photo is one of the photos I scanned that belong to Mel and Colleen Todd of Buhl, Idaho. On the back is written Ray King of Castleford.
Asked about Ray King, he said Ray’s sister Clois King was in his grade and Ray King was a year older. Lived on the southwest edge of Castleford. Said they were both really nice people, even as kids.
When I had researched Ray King in 2014 and a couple of times since, nothing seemed to match up. Well, time gets us all and he passed earlier this year. As far as I can tell, Clois is still alive.
Ray Clifton King was born 6 January 1928 in Castleford, Twin Falls, Idaho. He married Margaret Blanche Inama 2 July 1951 in Nampa, Canyon, Idaho. She passed away in 2015. Ray passed away 29 April 2021 in Payson, Utah, Utah. He is buried by his wife in Cherokee Memorial, Lodi, San Joaquin, California,
Miracles still happen! This is proof. The fact that these three photos traveled together without being separated, that there were hints as to their identity written on them, that some lady picked them up in Pennsylvania, and then spent the time to research them and found enough information to link to me, is phenomenal. Joseph, Sarah, and Hattie wanted to be found and the stars aligned with heaven. May there be many more such miracles in the future!
I had a lady who e-mailed me regarding three photos. They were found in an old store in Pennsylvania. The back of this photo above had written on it, “W.S. Donaldson, Evanston.” This lady traced that down to William Scott Donaldson, who did live in Evanston, Wyoming at from about 1890 to 1895. My Great Grandfather, William’s son, David Delos Donaldson was born in Evanston in 1894.
I knew it was not William Scott Donaldson. William, who I have written on before, was born in 1865 and died in Ogden, Utah in 1913 of cancer. A photo taken not too long before his passing does not have him as grey and not looking like this man.
William Scott Donaldson (1865-1913)
But I did have this photograph also in my records of William Scott Donaldson’s father, Joseph Russell Donaldson (1836-1925).
Unknown, Joseph and Agnes Donaldson, Hattie Lovell, Unknown
I have a couple of photos of Joseph Russell Donaldson, who I have also written on before. That nose, the double lines down the cheek, and that bushy goatee seemed to point me where I needed to go next. Here is another photo I have of Joseph Russell Donaldson.
Sitting (l-r): Joseph Russell Donaldson and George Donaldson. Standing: Unknown.
The next photo the lady had in the three-pack tied Joseph Russell to the mix. Here is the second photo.
Hattie Lovell and Joseph Russell Donaldson
This photo had written on the front “Hattie – Father.” As you can see from the photo above, Hattie is the same one as this Hattie, the sister to William Scott Donaldson, Harriet Edith Donaldson Lovell (1875-1961). On the back of this photo is written, “Grandpa Donaldson and Hattie Donaldson – Kingston, Canada.” Again, the tie between W.S. Donaldson and Hattie with “Grandpa.” William Scott was born in Joyceville, Ontario, Canada, but Joseph Russell lived in Kingston from at least 1901 until his death in 1925. Things were tying in nicely with each other.
Then there is this third photo. This one had written on the front, “Sarah Armina Donaldson, Papa’s mother.” The interesting part is the photo paper is of a photographer in Reading, Pennsylvania. So this must be a photograph of a photograph, and looking at it that does seem to be the case.
Sarah Armina Todd
That ties in nicely with Joseph Russell Donaldson and William Scott Donaldson as Sarah Armina Todd (1839-1880) is the wife of Joseph and mother of William. She died a little over 41 years old for what the death record states as “hemorrhage of lungs,” whatever that might be. I have an old, tiny photocopy of this photo but of poor enough condition I did not scan and upload to FamilySearch. This one isn’t necessarily a whole lot better but more complete.
Which then takes us back to the first photo at the top. The more I looked at it, it became apparent it was a younger version of Joseph Russell Donaldson. The way the goatee grows although trimmed, the facial lines, the lips (and the familiarity I recognize in my own father), and the eyes all match. Plus, the writing on the back probably indicates it was taken before or at the time that W.S. Donaldson lived in Evanston (1890-1895). Very happy to have found another photo of another ancestor. He is a handsome man too, nearly or at 60 years of age.
Buhl School, 5th Grade, 1947-48, Alice Blayney teacher, Bud Coley is in front row, fourth from left
This photo is from Colleen Coley Todd. She lives in Buhl and is my cousin through the Coley line.
I thought I better share it in hopes we might be able to name some more of the individuals in the photo. Any information I get I would be happy to add and update. I would anticipate most of these kids were born in 1935-1936.
I know two of the people in the photo. The name of the teacher, Alice Blayney, caught my eye. I have been involved in some Blayney litigation in Minidoka County for 4 years now. I was curious if she was related.
Alice Marguerite Blayney was born 3 July 1923 in Acequia, Minidoka, Idaho. She later married Allen Lester McCain (1913 – 1994) 21 June 1953 in Rupert, Minidoka, Idaho.
She is the older sister of William Donald Blayney (1930 – 2014). I am the Personal Representative of Donald Blayney and his wife Irene Vilhauer Blayney (1926 – 2015). I am still in that probate on an appellate level and now defending a separate litigation in relation to the Probate. How is that for a small world?
Front row, fourth from the left in the black sweater is Lorus “Bud” Ivan Coley (1936 – 1962). He is the reason Colleen has the picture as it is her brother. He was born 1 August 1936 in Buhl, Twin Falls, Idaho and died 23 October 1962 in what may or may not be a hunting accident in Twin Falls County mountains.
