William Andra Ordinations

Working through the family history book of Golden Andra that was given to me, I opened a page to scan some photos and found a surprise. Behind that photo were some ordination certificates. These are originals. I thought I better get them scanned and preserved. I also uploaded them to FamilySearch and got them linked with the names in the documents.

I think they are valuable for family history. They are also a peek into church history. This gives us the missionaries who baptized and confirmed my Great Grandfather in Germany. I have provided some limited biographies at the end.

Also an original Notification of Birth Registration for Robert Lee Andra, son of William and Mary, who died at birth. I am not sure why the United States Department of Commerce is issuing this Notification, or the Bureau of the Census. There is some history behind this I am not aware. Last, a copy of William’s obituary.

I had to do some history on individuals listed on the certificates. Some fascinating individuals, obviously some of them local church leaders.

James Richard Bodily – born 11 February 1872 in Hyde Park, Cache, Utah – died 12 April 1967 in Preston, Franklin, Idaho

Wilford Woodruff Emery – born 16 October 1880 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah – died 10 September 1954 in Salt Lake City.

John Edward Hanks – born 30 August 1877 in Salem, Utah, Utah – died 5 July 1970 in Salt Lake City.

William Gibson Palmer – born 16 July 1884 in Croydon, Morgan, Utah – died 15 May 1977 in Preston.

Henry Helaman Rawlings – born 8 April 1893 in Fairview, Oneida, Idaho – died 14 February 1984 in Fairview.

Adelbert Augustine Taylor – born 9 April 1883 in Springerville, Apache, Arizona – died 15 November 1948 in San Felipe de Híjar, San Sebastián del Oeste, Jalisco, Mexico.

Luther Hovey Twitchell – born 17 October 1878 in Salt Lake City – died 15 April 1962 in Bountiful, Davis, Utah.

Richmond Auditorium Dance Photo

This photo took a bit more work. This was taken in Richmond Utah at the Richmond Community Auditorium, which I believe is now called the Richmond Community Center. This photo was taken in 1967 or 1968.

The consensus is that these were likely students of Eve Reese, who taught in Logan and also at the Smithfield Armory. I found this obituary for her.

SMITHFIELD, UT– Eve J. Reese, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000 in Casa Grande, AZ.

She was born June 17, 1915 in Smithfield, Utah a daughter of Thomas William and Louise Minard Jarvis. She married Bert D. Reese on May 23, 1934. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He pre-ceded her in death.She taught dancing for many years throughout Cache Valley and did the choreography for high school musical productions. She was a member of the LDS Church and with her husband was a longtime dance director in the Cache Stake. She was a member of the Smithfield Civic Club, Bridge Club, and a former member of the Logan Golf and County Club. Following her retirement, she spent her winters in Casa Grande, Arizona where she enjoyed golf, bridge and socializing with her many friends.

She is survived by her three sons, a daughter and their spouses, Daren and Melva Reese, Salt Lake City; Thomas and Dixie Reese, Smithfield; Nansi and Ralph Roylance, Smithfield; Michael and Ann Reese, Nampa, Idaho, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her dear friend, Dareld Chamness, Casa Grande.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, 2000 at 12 noon, in the Allen-Hall Mortuary chapel. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services.

Interment, Smithfield City Cemetery.

This picture is from the 1960 – 1961 school year at Richmond Grade School (the name given in the photo). I only knew it as Park Elementary.

Playground to the North of Park Elementary, see the Benson Stake Tabernacle on the far left.

I had to do some research and talk to a few people.  Originally the site of Park Elementary was the old Richmond High School.  Richmond High School was built in 1911-12.  North Cache High School was built in 1920.  Richmond High then became Richmond Grade School.  In 1939 an addition was built and it was named Park Auditorium.  Richmond Grade School was always called Park Elementary, but nobody knows when it formally changed or adopted the name.  Cache County School District just recently abandoned the buildings and donated it to Richmond City.  The students now attend White Pine which is now an elementary school.

I understand the 1911-1912 high school portion has been torn down with the 1939 Park Auditorium addition the oldest portion of the complex.  The Auditorium and other newer additions are still present, but will now house Richmond City offices.

Here is another photo shared with me a few years ago.  I believe this photo is another from from Park Elementary School in Richmond, Cache, Utah.  Not sure of the class subject.  Radios?  Soldiering?  Electrics?  It is interesting whatever it is.  The pictures, chalkboard, and school are all familiar to me, even though this was 30 years before I was in school.  Has it changed much to today?

I understand this is Oral Ballam’s classroom on the upper southwest corner of Park Elementary.  The alphabet, maps, turkey are all indicators and reminders of his classroom.

This is the second of two grade school pictures of my Mom. This one is of her 6th Grade year at Park Elementary, Richmond, Cache, Utah. This is probably the 1964-1965 school year. I wonder if any of these other students are out there somewhere? What stories would they tell? Mom won’t tell me much of her childhood so I really don’t have much to add. Anyone venture?
